Client Profile

The Overton Brooks VA Medical Center, named in honor of the former Louisiana 4th District Congressman, is located in Shreveport, LA and serves a population of over 131,000 veterans residing within its primary service area.

Client Challenge

In late 2008, the medical center was faced with an emergency need to provide permanent high quality, administrative and clinician space for accounting, legal and medical staff that were to be displaced from a 60-year old building that was scheduled to be demolished within 120 days.

The Mobilease Solution

Faced with very narrow site conditions, the Mobilease design/build team provided two adjoining structures. The foundation system design faced a series of engineering challenges due to a 5 foot drop off over the 150 foot length of the site. A galvanized brick ledge was attached to the adjustable structural tubing piers in order to support added weight of the exterior brick and coined EFIS materials that would closely match surrounding structures. Each building entrance provides painted steel decks and ramps to accommodate the special needs of patients. All interior finishes are architectural spec quality. The structure was designed with energy conservation in mind. Its features include high efficiency roof top heat pumps, dual pane, tinted, low-E glass, an upgraded insulation package and a white TPO roof.
