The School District of Cheltenham Township is located in Montgomery County, PA with seven schools in the District and have produced some famous alumni, one of which is Reggie Jackson.
Starting a renovation project at Myers Elementary School which will not allow the students or faculty to operate during the two year construction phase. Cheltenham does not have any empty schools that could educate these students and they considered distributing the Myers students into multiple elementary schools. To start the renovation project, Cheltenham had to find approximately 35,000 sq. ft. of space ready by September 1, 2006 or scratch the project. Many parents were upset and had reservations about their children being sent to different locations. The facilities department were looking into modular space, but did not seem to be making any progress. Then Cheltenham heard about Mobilease through Phoenixville Area School District who had a similar situation and utilized a Mobilease 27,000 sq. ft. modular building that housed 25 classrooms, office space, gym area, library and bathrooms under one roof.
Craig Butler, Director of Business Affairs at Cheltenham and Joe Duarte, Mobilease met and designed a 39,112 square foot modular building to be engineered, built, delivered and installed in 134 days at Elkins Park School.
The modular building has 26 classrooms, 4 special education, 2,184 square feet of cafeteria, 2,184 sq. ft. gym area, 2,772 sq. ft. of office space. The project was completed on budget and has potential incremental savings if the school keeps the space on lease longer for additional renovation projects.
